This is a dumb question but if I add this lj as "friend", how will it email me since I dont see the "watch" feature? Or am I missing it. :) Thanks.

You mean the "Subscribe on livejournal" link? With this link you should be able to add it to your friends list like a regular journal / community ...

Also, you have to keep in mind that LJ only updates from the feeds every few hours, so entries might show up on your friends list with some delay.
